Learning Formats

Online

The online learning format allows students to complete 100% of their degree requirements remotely from anywhere in the world. Grounded in a distinctive faculty-led model, Meridian’s online learning platform provides maximum flexibility while maintaining high levels of engagement.

Hybrid

Meridian’s hybrid learning format integrates in-person classes at the Los Angeles Campus with online coursework. This format combines weekly face-to-face engagement with faculty and peers, paired with coursework completed online throughout the week. The hybrid format also offers coworking access at the Campus and access to campus resources.

Hybrid Schedule

For courses students take in the hybrid format, coursework takes place over seven weeks. Each week, students in a hybrid format course attend one in-person class on the Los Angeles Campus and also engage in the University's learning and collaboration platform. The weekly in-person class typically lasts three hours and is typically in the evening, though this can be adjusted when the students and faculty in a given course converge on a different preferred time — staff always keep in mind student and faculty preferences for course scheduling.

In addition to the weekly class, students in a hybrid format course have additional opportunities to connect and collaborate on campus. This includes practice group and coworking hours in the library, optional course seminars, and on occasion, over the weekend from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays. These optional opportunities expand on the once-a-week class for those students who are interested in further on-campus engagement.

At a minimum, a student who chooses to take two hybrid format courses a quarter will come to campus for two 3-hour classes per week, once for each of their two courses.

Yes. Students can transition between formats based on course availability. In fact, a student could choose to take one course online and one course hybrid in the same quarter. Student Services can guide them through this process and review available options each quarter.

Yes, Meridian University’s dynamic online learning platform is designed to foster interaction and engagement, providing a human-centered experience that keeps online students actively connected with faculty, peers, and resources via messaging, small-group activities, and the live video classes that are a distinct element of the online format.

Students in the online format have full access to academic advising, library services, and IT support throughout their journey at Meridian. Students in the Los Angeles area can also take advantage of campus resources and meetups, even if they are not in the hybrid format.

Students must be enrolled in a hybrid course to attend in-person classes. However, it is possible to switch between online and hybrid formats on a per-quarter basis based on course availability, offering flexibility throughout their educational journey at Meridian.

Additional Learning Formats Information

Course availability: Course availability and format may vary by quarter, program, and degree. Students are encouraged to consult with their advisor each quarter for clarification before enrolling in classes.
Attendance Policy: Students in the hybrid format must meet the University’s attendance requirements for in-person classes by attending a sufficient percentage of classes in-person. Students in the online format must also meet attendance requirements, however such requirements allow students who did not attend a video class live to instead engage with the recording.

Minimum online courses: Students in the hybrid format engage in online work as part of each hybrid course. Hybrid students complete discussion posts and final writing assignments online. Additionally, all students take at least one course in the online format as part of their degree.
Resources available to students on campus: Access to the Los Angeles Campus outside of class time may vary based on University events and staff availability. Access to meet with staff and faculty and receive admissions advising on-campus is by appointment only.
